Is The FDA Killing Us With BPA?

"Campbell's Soup I, 1968" Print

What do all these items have in common along with so many others? Items that we consumers buy and use everyday. They all contain the chemical BPA (bisphenol-A).  Items containing BPA when  heated in the microwave leach out potentially toxic levels of the chemical.

BPA is an endocrine disruptor, meaning it mimics or interferes with human hormones wreaking havoc on our reproductive, neurologic and immune systems.  BPA exposure has also been linked with developmenal abnormalities, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and possibly cancer.  The verdict is still out on the cancer issue, but I’m sure Cheryl Crow will debate you on that one.

One would think all this information came from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Because they have our best interests at heart…right?  Wrong!  The FDA said at one time “BPA is not harmful to humans.”  Actually, two investigative journalists at the Milwaukee Journal- Sentinel conducted an analysis and did a cover blowing story on BPA and the FDA’s research on the chemical ( see video below.)  It was because of this story that the FDA is going to “re-evaluate” BPA, with yours and my tax dollars no doubt.

The FDA is nothing more than another government run entity using up our tax dollars, hiring inside scientists and physicians to conduct costly studies, and at their discretion sway the research and results to come out in such a way that makes it economically beneficial for them.  Or simply put, those assholes are supposed to be looking out for our health by making sure products and drugs don’t harm or kill us.  In this country it all boils down to the almighty dollar! It’s also said that with the administrative heads at the FDA currently, it’s highly unlikely that anything will change. One would hope that Obama will replace the heads of this regulatory agency. Yeah right!

Okay, I wouldn’t go that far!

1.) Do you think BPA in our plastic is harmful to us?

2.) Do you trust the FDA when it comes to our health?

3.) Will this information make you stop and think the next time you go to put plastic in the microwave?

    • I know Jean, I eat those microwave meals like their going out of style. The are great quick lunches. Since I’ve written this blog I’m very midnful about what I put in the microwave…but I did have a few Lean Cuisines left…guess a coupla more won’t make a difference if I’ve already eaten enough to fubar my body too!

  1. Seems like everywhere you turn they are finding something else harmful to our body.

I think that is why there is so many cancers and viruses.

I need to erect a bubble. Oh crap! I bet it’d have PBA in it!

Let’s all move to the country and live in a tent. I would actually LOVE that.

Speaking of, did you ever see that show where they live in an “all natural” compound. It was pretty cool.

  2. Tasneem,
We all have. I have to say someone told me this a while back and I didn’t believe it. After doing more research, now I know better. I’m definately more conscious of what I heat in the microwave these days. I try to avoid plastic at all costs.

This includes drinking water that has sat in the car and heated by the sun.

    Thanks for dropping by :)

  3. Is this hormone shit the reason I’m starting to grow boobs?

Ever since the early 90’s, the FDA has essentially declared everything “safe” that doesn’t kill the user within 15 minutes. The trick is to put out a product that kills them slowly. Once enough people die to draw attention (sometimes in the tens of thousands) the FDA considers taking a product off the market that never should have been there in the first place. But by then, you’re company has pocketed billions and jacked up your bonus.

But there is still some good science being done. It’s just that it gets ignored by bought-and-paid-for FDA idiots or buried because it doesn’t jive with the applying company’s agenda. (aka. making as much money as possible by selling their shit to everybody, even people who don’t need/benefit from it or who could be harmed by using it.)

    • lol…yeah that cold be the reason for your boobs!

The government hides so much crap. The FDA doesn’t look out for our health like they say they do. The Pharmaceutical industry is just as corrupted. They are in cohoots just as you described.
