Once you experience a soft homemade flour tortilla, you will never turn to processed store bought again.
  • 3 Cups All Purpose Unbleached White Flour or Bread Flour (I recommend King Arthur)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5 tablespoons grass fed butter
  • ¾ to 1 Cup hot whole milk (around 120 degrees)
  1. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl with fork.
  2. Cut in butter. Tip: I use a grater and shred the butter in the flour and work it with my hands.
  3. Slowly pour in hot milk and mix with hands until completely moistened and no dry spots remain.
  4. Knead the dough for at least 10 minutes until soft and smooth.
  5. Divide and measure into equal parts.
  6. Roll into balls.
  7. Cover with elastic wrap and let rest at least 10 minutes. 20- 30 is better.
  8. Roll out thinly on a floured surface turning a quarter turn each time.
  9. Roll out to 6 to 8 inches.
  10. Preheat and lightly coat quality skillet or griddle with olive oil on medium high heat.
  11. Cook each side until brown.
  12. Lightly coat skillet/griddle with olive oil after each tortilla.
